Fredrik Hasselqvist, born January 3, 1722, Swedish traveller and naturalist who studied under Carl Linnaeus and traveled across the Levant discovering and naming new species. Died aged 30, while trying to return home.



Heinrich Schliemann, a German banker, born January 6, 1822 who discovered the site of Troy through analysing the geography described in The Illiad. Recorded with the brilliant Matt Barker Project.



Neville Duke, born 11 January 1922, was a British fighter ace in WWII and one of the world's foremost test pilots, breaking the world air speed record in 1957 when he flew a Hawker Hunter at 727.63 mph.
